Picked up some carterB bolt on sponsons and trying to figure out where to put them. Flush with the bottom of the ski or 1/8", 1/4"+ up from the bottom? Also how far forward/back? Bought them to help in surf, but will be riding 90% flat water.

For most aggressive turning, you want the 1/4" step above the bottom hull, and further fwd on the ski.

Flush with the bottom and further back will be a bit smoother. Either way you will get used to it in a few weeks.

Any tips on how far back to measure for smooth?

I measured 35" from the back for my pwr sponsons, this is a good starting point. I wouldn't go further than + or - 1-2" from there. Just my 2ct others here may have better advice

In general let the contour of the sponsons lead you to proper placement, this will be easier if your mounting flush to the bottom.

If you mount them flush with the bottom, you could end up wobbly at speed on fast FW / glassy runs.....feels like chine walking but works great in surf, and for hard carving.

1/4 inch up....still great for flat water, and great for surf...

Where its at in the picture looks fine. I just like a bit more of a step. It would be cool to have adjustable/tuneable sponsons. Change the shape of the hull for different conditions.
