when i first assembled my mag, it seemed tight as well, but the bearings loosened up after a few rides. i was so sure i had assembled it wrong, i took it back apart and did it again just to be sure. a year later, its nice and smooth, and spins freely.

yeah mine felt tight as well but i packed the bearings full of grease before the install so id say that's where my tightness came from.

Glad this thread started. I bought a Skat mag over the winter that was originally built by Thrust and I tought it spun hard too. I was going to spin it over with a drill for a while to see if the grease loosened up in the bearings.

Newly built pumps will be harder to turn by hand than used pumps, this is normal on oem pump builds also.

However, it should ideally spin evenly without any scratchiness or drag.

when ever you install bearings like this from 2 sides you need to give the pump casing or the shaft itself a sharp ''RAP'' with a hammer after your done . Believe it or not I have installed hundreds of bearings over the years and this works every time . You will notice a huge difference after a good couple of sharp taps . It seats the races into the housing and puts everything on the same plane to reduce all binding .... it works and you wont have the bearings in a bind while its under load . try it

Very true! It's like replacing U-joints in a truck... You need to whack the yoke with a hammer to "unbind" the bearings and caps.

I would use either a dead blow hammer or a brass drift hammer. If not then just a regular hammer could be used but I'd put a small 2x4 or similar piece of wood against the pump and hit that

I'm not a fan of rubber mallets they are basically a bouncy ball with a handle
