Solo riding.. Helmet Recommended ?

I ride often at a small lake by my house, alone. I am somewhat of an average rider. I don't do any tricks, yet. My question is, do you guys recommend that I wear a helmet ?

Yes. Better safe than sorry, especially when you're alone. Get a downhill mountain bike helmet. I don't even notice mine being on.

I dont wear a helmet unless i am doing risky things.
Casual riding, bouys alone, subs, flatwater 180s, no.
Race course with others, new tricks, inversions, surf riding, yes.

IMO subs are risky.. Easy to enter the water wrong and hit your head/go over the bars.

Risky is relative. Xmetal riders at my lake dont wear helmets for 12 foot backflips with 5 combos after. I put a helmet on to practice stabs. Subs dont concern me.

I didnt answer the question directly. I only said what i do.

I ride alone, usually for tuning. But my girl got worried so i bought a helmet. Now its always on, especially when i ride with my friends-

I use an old motorcycle helmet (getting a new one this season). I always wear when trying new tricks. I used it when starting 180 hops to flips but towards the end of the season I did not. Doing setup flips I definitely do and will until I am comfortable. Still better to look silly with the unnecessary helmet rather than look silly being pulled out of the water and to the hospital for whatever reason

Helmets will mess u up bad trying land use the helmet to get the feel of the rotation and then try it with out it you will normally stick the landing

I don't understand this. Wouldn't a helmet help throwing weight? I can see that it wouldn't allow your head to flick back as aggressive but that would be only negative I can think of and would guess the extra weight would balance that out no??

I guess I would think even with a helmet you can flick your head enough. Won't know till I put it to test. I don't remember a big difference between helmet and no helmet while trying tricks
