I figured i'd share what I did a couple weeks ago with a otterbox 2500 I ordered. It fits perfect and clearances my limited pipe. Very easy to remove/replace the box and it's tight underneath the strap.
I got the stainless steel eye bolts from home depot, drilled 2 holes and glassed them in. Just becareful not to drill too far. One hole I only had about 1/4" depth so I had to cut down the threads of the eyebolt.
The rubber strap is a "adjustable" type from homedepot. It has holes already made so you can cut/shorten it to your desired length. Play around and you should be able to get just the right amount of tension. The S-hooks that come with it are crap, I bought stainless steel s-hooks instead and crimped one side so I wouldn't lose the strap.
I then turfed the bottom of the otterbox so it wouldn't shift too much and not scratch the paint on the hood.
This turned out great, I keep my cell phone/car keys/registration/cigs/lighter/seatow card and still have room inside.
