Sourcing superfreak badass hood

Unfortunately the ski I just purchased showed up with a hood that looks like it seen both world wars and I’m starting to think purchasing an entire new hood would be cheaper than repairing it.
Anyone know where I can source a hood for a badass? Will a titan hood fit? Thank you

someone bought the molds from thrust and i personally have not heard anything about it since. not gonna be much option since no one is currently making them. might have to repair it. how bad is it?

I talked to the owner of the molds months ago, best bet might be to try to contact Brian at Thrust and see if he can connect you with the owner for a hood...too bad the new owner hasn't started producing those yet, superfreaks are the best but I might be biased slightly..

Im pretty sure a titan hood or a circus hood will fit, but I don't think anybody is producing any of them. If you find one, and yours is carbon, I'd be interested in the damaged carbon hood. I have a titan with a glass hood and it's really heavy.

The front corners where hood latch brackets are the worst, the cracks are deep.
The entire ski is being painted,
and I was aware of the clear coat spidering, but I’m now being told by the body shop that it’s structural cracking. I’m just trying to figure out if it would be in my best interest financially to source a new hood as compared to costly repairs that might not last. Seems as if getting a new one may not be a easy route!! There is also extensive issues under the hood that could be repaired for extra of course

I almost bought that ski before I bought my carbon titan pro. That is all easily fixed with paint and some resin/reinforcing..
I haven’t seen the ski in person, and Im borderline mentally handicapped when it comes to body work
I’ve just been told it would be a fair bit of work and there’s a chance it may not hold up like I’d hope
No price estimate yet
If I could get a new hood for a reasonable price id rather go that route

Personally....I would sand the cracks and fill with cabosil/resin and sand it smooth again myself before paint. I highly doubt sourcing a carbon hood will be cheaper than that...those hoods were like 1200 ish new if I remember right...there are a ton of people on this site more experienced than I am with fixing carbon I would wait for them to chime in but I don't think any of that is a big deal. I had a crack in my exhaust tube I chopped up carbon fiber since it was so hard to reach and filled the crack before laying a piece of carbon over it for reinforcement, thing is nails now.

I was considering repairing the cracks with 3m panel bond but I’d rather have the hood repaired professionally if it’s going to be repaired at all..
i was going to have it wraped in a visual carbon anyways, so if I could source a nice visual carbon hood I’d just sell the damaged one!!
No carbon repairs from me unless they’re not going to be seen! Lol

This is the crack on mine. I'll use some cabosil and resin to glue it back together then I'll sand it down enough to reinforce it with some twill carbon or glass. The way the twill is stitched allows it to lay down in curves and weird shapes without having to cut the cloth to fit around the corners. Then once its cured, sand and fair it out. Prime and paint. 20210401_154328.jpg20210401_153939.jpg

My hood has the same exact issues too
I’m talking to a buddy now about making our own mold, something different of course, and just laying up a few new hoods
I sent a email to thrust too
Thanks everyone

Any superfreak hood will fit. They are all interchangeable. I have repaired damage like that before myself. Fill and then loads of carbon on the back and use a long aluminum backer plate after the repair to spread the load across the entire front of the hood instead of just the middle area.

Just have the hood repaired, that is not bad damage. Way cheaper and less trouble than buying or making one.

I should mention that both of my carbon freaks have cracks on the inside hood liners. These happened right away, but never got more worse with lots of riding, never repaired them. The carbon hoods are flexy flexy, but freakishly durable (like the carbon hulls themselves are in general).

The glass hoods are totally different, no experience with them, but definately not as strong. Repairs on glass hood are easily possible by experienced glassman, and should hold up well.
