Two driveshafts showed up today at JetManiac from X'ers that both need some love!

Anyone spot the problem with both of these splines? (other than being tweeked)

How would that be possible?
Is it possible that my set-back pump was sold to me with a non-setback shaft??

When I installed my Mag pump with the setback shaft I had to adjust my midshaft because the driveshaft bottomed out in the midshaft. I had to bolt the pump in with the midshaft loose and adjust it until it no longer bottomed out.

Just a little background on what I ran:

Skat setback mag pump, bought in January or so.
In August I replaced the mid shaft with a brand-new Cold Fusion shaft. But didn't replace the pump shaft, even though Carl warned me to do so at the same time.
The new shaft was installed to factory specs. Both the motor and the pump were shimmed correctly.
One month later, I pulled my ski apart and found the shaft like that. The new midshaft looked like the matching piece to it.

shatfs are at different Rockwell due to metal types and/or heat treat. Or machine sprines vs forging.

always instal pump before midshaft housing.

What shaft did CF want you to run??? Or was he concerned your drive shaft was already too worbn down?

Yes, the concern was running a used pump shaft with a new mid shaft. Carl simply advised me to replace the pair.

The main issue is not enough spline overlap with both of these. When you have a spline underlap, you also often have the problem with the orings from the midshaft riding so far back that they fall on the splines and don't seal water out. Poor alignment will also cause water leakage and promote premature wear.

MattE your shaft is the one on the bottom. You had crazy grooving where the orings for midshaft ride on the driveshaft. You should listen to Carl, if you have spline wear on either midshaft or driveshaft in most cases both shafts will be worn and should be replaced at the same time.

I know, I was being a cheap bastard at the time and knew I would pay for it later.
The mid-shaft splines look very similar - from new to that in less than one month.
