Super Jet Sponsons.. Are they right for me?

First of all I chase and jump a lot of boat wakes ranging from ski boats, wakeboard boats, and all kinds of other stuff on the lake I ride at. I also do a lot of freestyle with my own setup wake working on stabs, trying to get upside down, etc. Anyways, I'm working on my winter build and I could use a little insight on if I should consider sponsons. My ski is a 1995 sn superjet with a 701+b pipe+stock head and 150 psi , rn pole, and all the obvious stuff like a grate and quick steer mods. Would sponsons only be worth it for what I do if I were to cut a couple inches off of my hull? I've got my ski all cut open but I wasn't planning on shortening it.
Any insight would be awesome!

Remember back in the day when all there was was Yamaha and Kawasakis? And the Kawasaki fans would say "Nothing leans and turns like a Kawasaki- Yamahas turn flat", and the Yamaha fans would say "you get used to the flat turning style and Yamahas are way more stable" Well I believe it was Blowsion who figured out that by adding side sponsons to the Superjet it will still retain its stability but also lean and turn like a Kawasaki, and they were right- get the sponsons

My experience as a lighter rider (~150 lbs) who rides flat water has been that the tubbies help bring a little buoyancy to the nose of the ski, at least #Zero tubbies do - helping me get the nose up to pull my airs and spins out a little easier.

I really enjoy them on my flat water ski.

I'm around 150-160 too.. BrightE's, you shortened your hull at the same time you put on tubbies though right?
I dunno, only reason I'm considering them is because I have an opportunity to get some tom21 sponsons for a decent price. If they're not that beneficial for flatwater/boatwakes, then I'll move on to something more valuable.

Yeah, that's right. I shortened at the same time so it is hard to say what is more responible for what.

At the same time, having them on now, I will never not have tubbies on an OEM boat no matter what riding condition. They are an awesome addition.

Sponsons were the best addition I put on my old superjet. Benefits all the way around. No question in my eyes,I would put them on for sure.

Tubbies-or "sponsons" are a great addition. I have them on my skis. I feel the difference when turning under throttle to chase boat wakes plus it feels much more stable at high speeds. No compliants here.. some people are for them and some not so much. for a freeride ski it it will help Tom21 makes a very nice set

I really really like they way my RN handles flat or surf with the destroyers. But for some reason every SN I rode rails with ease with out them.

oddly enough I agree. I can easily ride my square where I would compare my round more to an x2. thus the round got tubbies and the square did not.

When I added a pipe to my 701, I was floored and amazed. After adding tubbies to my squarenose, the pipe became my second favorite mod. You can really rail corners, fly around full throttle and carve like you wouldn't believe. You'd be nuts to not add them

dont get me wrong, they do work and have benefits. not sure how much you would get out of them jumping boat wakes?
as mentioned, the do make the nose wider so if that would benefit you then it would be an improvement. they also make a ski carve different, tighter maybe is a good word. I think they perform best in surf, I have had them on for some time and my square has a fixed steer hood so that could be the difference.

I always am on the side of caution. I would hate for you to install them and not like them. although I can only think of one person who said they didnt notice any difference. which good or bad, how do you not notice any change at all when altering the shape of the hull? my guess is ride slow and in a straight line? and of course everyone from racers to freestyle to rec riders have positive remarks on the various sponsons out there.

I like a square with no tubbies
i like my round with them
and i cant stand an x2 or fx without them.
but thats just me. If you can get em cheap and they are not knockoffs, why not do it? and shorten your hull too. all the cool kids are doing it. lol

I can't say I'm just jumping boat wakes. I do alot of stabs and will work on rolls off of my setup wake, and I do stabs+will try rolls off of boat wakes as well, and hopefully I'll get out to some lake Michigan surf. I'm a little hesitant on shortening my hull though. Wasn't planning on doing much extra glass work.

I love them on my kawi, they really helped straight line stability at highier speeds where the 750 hull had issues. I also notice improvement in carving and recovery from odd landings. I would say it was my best mod to date... I used tubbie 2's, bought them before destroyers came out

Sounds like sponsons are pretty good. Awesome insight so far. Yeah, turns out the sponsons I was offered are knockoffs/copies of tom21s/#zero that skibum makes.

Other than the extra 90 pounds destroyers added to the front of my ski, they are great in every way. I had a small learning curve because it changed the handling some, but once I got used to them, everything was better.
