Squarenose rideplate/steering nozzle clearance problem

attached is a pic of the total hack job i had to do to make the rideplate clear the steering cable where it attaches to the nozzle. here's the deal, its a 1990 pump in a 1991 hull which is no difference between years. the rideplate is for a square as well so im at a loss. any ideas????

well thats obvious, im just wondering why there is such a clearance issue. how would a protec nozzle help? i will just get a stocker and be done with it.

Either use some washers to lower the ride plate or get a different one.

No idea why that combo isn't working though. I have a protec ride plate and that clears my stock nozzle. Maybe the protec nozzle needs a protec ride plate?

Protec nozzel has the steering arm higher up and/or a different rideplate has one bend in it as opposed the the multible bends in the ocean pro rideplate. That plate does not look like it is as deep as the protec plate on my ski.

shimming the rideplate is one answer - though, itll change the riding characteristics dramatically and usually not for the better if youre freestyling/freeriding because itll force the nose down.

in my opinion, a better way to tackle this issue is to move the steering ball inward and grind off the rest of the plastic tab. this serves 2 purposes.

1: you wont have to grind the rideplate and
2: you get a tighter steering radius which is always good.

John, does yours have a huge gaping hole like i had to put in my plate? does it effect the handling at all or is it even noticeable?

charlie, good suggestion. its too late to do right now to save this rideplate but i will have to do that when i get another one.
