So my family and I are going to St. Augustine beach for spring break. I was just wondering if there are many people that ride there? If so how is it? This will be my first time riding surf so any tips are welcome.

Here is a good write up for first time surf riding. The number one tip though is to not ride alone. It's been a few years since I rode Vilano Beach but PM Idok. He is one of the locals.

Cool thanks. About riding alone, I'm the only one with a ski in my family. I'll just have to ride extra careful and be smart.
l would totally advise NOT to ride alone.Dont become a statistic.
There is a great group of guys that ride out at Huganot Park in Jacksonville and the Spot south of St Augie.
Ok. I'll just have to see what the surf is like when we get there. If it's huge then obviously I won't ride alone. I think my parents might rent a ski or something too.

If your parents are not experienced riding in surf then they may not be any good to you in case of an emergency. Take our advice and up with the local experienced riders that will keep an eye on you and will be able to help.

Yeah, don't ride alone. If you break down and the tide is going out you're going bye bye. I learned this the hard way the first time in the ocean. Me and my brother swam out to a sand bar which was about a 10 minute swim out. It took us almost an hour of non-stop swimming to get back in. Luckily we were both on the swim team and had the endurance to swim that long. If we were out farther or the current was stronger who knows what would have happened.

Riding alone for first time in the surf in that area is not an option. If you drive down to Daytona and ride in the zone, then it would be ok, but riding in St.Augie area means launching and riding from an inlet either Jacksonville to the North or the spot to the south. Either launch, you will need to ride with a local to show you the area.

vilano inlet is right there in st augustine. ive ridden there before.
not the best option to ride an inlet alone but its not an inevitable death sentence. free diving caves by yourself....yes
riding a fully functioning jetski while wearing a lifevest out an inlet....probably not.
ive done it and lived to tell about.
be sure and hit either mojo's taco shop or nalu's tacos (trailer) or both.

full disclosure, the one and only time i rode vilano was the one and only time i have sunk a ski, so had i been alone my ski would most likely still be there.....

When I stated riding all the guys around Jax were great about helping me out so I must pay it forward. As everyone says never ride alone in the surf. If you break down ( happens all the time to all of us ) you are toast! What ski are you going to bring ? Do you have front and rear tow hooks? Tow strap? What about a bilge pump ( A must have ) ? Cause if I ride with you I may need a tow in myself LOL. Only bad thing a lot of us are heading to Wave Dazes on the 6th of April so we may not have a lot of time before to ride.
Awesome. Sounds good, ill PM you. Im bringing a white -4 RN superjet I just built. Completely went through it. I made sure everything electrical is good to go with dielectric grease etc... I have front and rear bow eye for tow hooks. Guess ill put a little loop of rope or something through the front one. Tow rope ill put in fire extinguisher box, and yes I have a bilge pump.
Ill definitely look for those haha.
