Other stand up rentals?

Do any of you guys rent out your stand ups or know of places that successfully do it? I had a conversation with a friend as to how successful one could/couldn't be if they tried, assuming it was done in a nice location. just thought i'd see if any of you do it? I know I would pay to rent one if I saw them in maui or mexico or something.

If I win the lottery, I will open up a shop in Maui....Lahaina or maybe Kihei. Until then, I seriously don't think there is enough demand for our sport.

My buddy rented a standup in Hawaii a few years ago. I doubt you would make any money if all you rented was stand ups.

CA lotto is up to 85 million. I don't think it would be about the money, just something to do....:) And of course, I would let Bobert540 let run the shop, while I'm traveling the other 6 months of the year.

I just moved to Maui and the hardest thing to leave behind was my skis. I am on the hunt to find a place that you can ride in the surf. But to say it is a long shot is beyond a understatement.

I'm actually suprised they even have rental on Maui, locals are against it and I can understand. I think you even need some kind of course or permit on Kauai. Lots of restrictions on Hawaii islands, in order to protect the natural habitat. You might want to pick up surf boarding or kitesurfing.

its just run and regulated by the surfers, its funny though how its ok to use a jetski for tow end surfing there, but the min you look like your having fun on the ski,its not ok anymore...lame

In the end it is regulated by the surfers but it is regulated by law. There are special zones where you can ride. In these areas off the islands of Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii, recreational (i.e. non-commercial) PWCs may operate in Hawaii waters only from 500 feet from the shoreline (or outer edge of a fringing reef) to two miles off shore.

I have a lot more respect for the guys in Tahiti they have similar structure under the water in the surf zone and let's just say it is unforgiving..

I have plenty of other fun water based activities that I am into so I just need to ride my skis when I go back and visit friends and family.
Here is a pic from yesterday's fun.

YOU need to stop, I'm jealous! The fact you live in Maui, fish for all the wonderful tasting creatures, best beer, best coffee, and yes the best soda on the planet! I would give up jet skis in a heartbeat, and one day I just may.

So they are strict as to what you can do in the surf there? That sucks, I guess Surfers rule there though so makes sense.

They are strict cause the whole culture and most of the main industry's are water based. It seems to be more about conservation then the surfers. That said even if it was legal you would have to get past the surfers and I don't see that as a battle worth fighting. I ride jet skis for fun not to get into arguments every time I ride.. I knew moving here the ski habit was going to have to get put on hold for awhile. tough decision but so far I have been distracted by all the other options.
