I've rented some really nice sit-downs in that area. Since you live near me, you may not have experienced ocean riding down there before. You can have a lot of fun ripping around surf and wave jumping those couches. Try to find smaller/lighter ones if you can. Use craigslist. You can find some good deals on there. They still don't compare to a standup in surf, but if you haven't tried this before, I recommend it.
Next suggestion is to rent some snorkel gear while you're there. Google some good spots in the area. Go at high tide when the water is deep and the sediment settles. I have a spot in West Palm Beach that I love. I never get tired of it.
Last thing, if you don't have a car, there's a train service that travels between West Palm and Maimi called the Tri-Rail. It's an inexpensive and fast way to get to other towns along the coast. A lot of their trains are Toronto's old GO trains. You can see green paint in spots where the blue has chipped off. West Palm has a really nice waterfront with great restaurants along Clematis St. I prefer Rocco's Tacos, and Grease.
