I started porting my cases tonight just wondering if anyone has some input and if I am on the right track.

It looks like you’re on the right track, maybe just a bit wider. Then you may want to fill the tops with epoxy to strengthen the ported areas and increase gasket mating surfaces for blow-out protection.

I did fill the cases already but not all the way to the top like you did. I am about 1/32 below the gasket area. Anyway, thanks for the input. Also what media did you blast the cases with on the inside? Looks like a good atomizing surfice. I guess I will go bigger on my porting, I have some good comparison now. Can I loose any bottom end from doing this?

Case porting is a modification that can make a noticeable improvement in overall power that comes without any loss of reliability. Just don’t port so wide that you go though the case. I used 80 grit silicone carbide blast media shot at 110 psi with a 5/32" air jet and a 5/16†large carbide nozzle. Silicone carbide is one of the toughest abrasives; it stays sharper and lasts longer than any other abrasive and the area you’re shooting at glows white when it hits the part making it easy to control. This leaves a textured finish when shot at high pressures.

Silicone carbide is too costly unless you have a (large) cabinet.

I use a 40lbs pressure-fed open system with different grade sand media. While not as fast as S.C, it only costs $8 per 100lbs as opposed to $100 to $150 for S.C. Still [FONT=VERDANA,ARIAL,HELVETICA][FONT=VERDANA,ARIAL,HELVETICA]that "flashlight effect" is cool to see.

I like to go through the casting, then JB weld comes into the picture.
