300/440/550 Starter removal

So the starter on my 440 is giving me problems and I have another in a parts ski. Took off the wires and the two bolts in the front and it won't budge, are there more bolts somewhere that I can't see? Can anyone explain to me where they might be? I have a shop manual for the 550's and it shows 2 more bolts in the back of the starter on the side but I don't see those anywhere.

They seal pretty tight. Just need to use some force to get it out. A light tap on it sometimes helps break the seal.

Just noticed its not for a sj. Never did one on a 440 so I may be way off on that lol. Sorry.

If the starter on your ski now doesn't have that plate where the 2 bolts would go, it's an aftermarket.

Just follow the manual. U should be OK.

there are the 2 bolts up front that got through the flywheel cover and to the starter, then there is 1 or 2, 10mm head bolts that are on the back of the starter.

and if the starter is bad and u know how to use a hack saw then i would recommend getting a sea-doo starter off of the 800 motor and cutting the ground tab off of it. it will spin the motor over allot faster, it starts my mod 474 like right now.

i posted a picture of where to cut on the starter if u want to go that route.

Thanks for the info. Turns out there was a starter on it that wasn't stock. There were no back bolts but it had some kind of sealant on the front probably because it had no o-ring. We took the flywheel cover off and gave it a few taps with the hammer on the starter shaft and it popped right out. Right now I have a starter in there out of my stock 550 but I might order one of those sea doo 800 starters and put it on this ski since it is modded and takes a few seconds cranking to get the ski going. Then I can just put this starter back on the other ski. Just to be sure, any of these will work right? Ebay Link

ya those should work u just have to cut that tab off. i have never been a fan of the after market starters, it just seems the oem ones last longer, so i get mine from my buddy that owns a pwc shop and take them off junk ski's
