A threaded male-female standoff works best. M5x0.80
Usually I see cable fractures like this from steering that is not properly adjusted and the cable runs out of travel before the turn plate contacts the stop (when turning left on Yamaha). Take a look at it to make sure you don't break the repair.

It broke because you left threads exposed and that's where the diameter is the smallest and weakest. I always cover all threads with additional nuts to beef up that weakness. I've broke a lot of cables
