Steering cable issues

I finally got my new ski out to ride yesterday and was having issues with the steering cable. Before I dropped it in the water, I knew the bars/cable weren't lined up straight but wanted to ride anyways. Now I got that out of the way, I can fix the kinks. I have adjusted the ends of he steering cable at the pump and at the bars. By ends I mean the piece you can screw in/out that clamps to the nipple on the steering plate and at the pump cone. It seems I have backed both out almost all of the way out but the pump still sits pointing to the right. I have a bob gen 2 and am using a steering cable from a 94 SN. Am I adjusting the ends on the cable backwards? Or am I doing something else wrong? Wrong cable? And insight is appreciatd. I can post a picture tonight but in order for the pump to be straight, my right hand has to be further towards the nose than my left hand. Thanks!

Aren't the pre 08 round nose cables longer than square nose cables?...
I think most trims need a longer cable end too, since the trim ring sets the nozzle further to the rear.

When you get the extension piece, make sure everything is adjusted so your cable throw is centered with the nozzle and bars straight. You want to be relying on the steering stop to stop the movement, and not running out of cable throw
