I discovered this on my '95 square nose and wanted to share it!
If you don't want to spend $20, plus shipping and handling and wait a week to receive a new Yamaha SJ steering cable nut... you can go to your local hardware store and purchase a Toilet Connector (see attached for details) and it works flawlessly. I personally believe its better than the OEM style nut because the toilet connector has four wings that help you tighten and loosen without having to MacGyver a special tool.
