Harbor freight sells an inexpensive heat gun if you don't have one. I noticed the other day soaking a rag with a lot if gum and tar remover and holding it on the residue glue for a bit and working it with rag real wet melted the glue way faster.
I was using only a damp rag before and it took way longer
I don't know what this might do to paint but it had no effect on gelcoat. I used something called Goof Off to remove the old contact cement in my ski's tray when I tore up the old turf. I tried everything, and I mean everything prior to it. The Goof Off melted the old residue on contact, you just need to be quick about wiping it off because it does dry quickly. On my old OEM hull decals, after I used the heat gun to remove the plastic decal portion, I held a cloth under the residue spots, squeezed the Goof Off directly onto the residue and let it run down into the cloth, instantly wiped the residue off. I have never seen anything like it but now I always keep a tin of it around. You can get it anywhere, Home Depot apparently sells it too.
That 3m eraser wheel works great. Throw it on a high speed drill and be done with it. Few years ago I stripped an entire Kawasaki 650 sx from the early 90's factory decals in an hr or two with no damage
Yes, definitely something like the 3m eraser wheel is the best thing I have used.
@jo5hi3 brought me home an air powered pin stripe remover, and that thing was amazing. I wasted hours trying to get stickers off with razors and adhesive remover, and this thing took most of the stickers off my ski in minutes.
for stickers I use a plastic scrapper and a heat gun, then finish with WD40 to get the gooey stuff off. You can use Acetone, but be careful depending on the paint job.
