Stock JS300, no low end oomph.....

Hey guys, yes I am a noob to x-h2o but not to the sport. I've been riding skis for a while now and I'm also MMI certified tech. I just picked up a JS300 for cheap, stock everything and it runs good. My only gripe is it's slooooowwwwww out the hole. It tops out good though. What are some good mods I can do to fix that? I'm trying to stick to around $500 as far as budget goes. Impeller, jetting, pipe....Throw me some ideas!!! And as far as doing a 650 swap, I'm going to do that later. Any input on that would be great as well.

Yea you're definitely right about that. I'm looking for a 550 reed motor or 650.....found a guy in SC with a ton of ski parts so I'm hoping he can come through, otherwise I'm picking through the parts for sale board her.

I found a guy locally selling a SX Westcoast pipe, he threw in the motor(it's incomplete though, no head or hardware) with intake and carb to sweeten the deal. I took it all for 300, not too bad I guess considering the exhaust is worth half that. Need advice about the pump though, it's stock with stock impeller(as far as I can tell). Should I get a/m impeller or go with bigger pump? Still looking around for an E box.

Stock prop is terrible. A prop will definitely help out, but like everybody said, the 300 motor will always be pretty sluggish. I personally don't think a grate would be worth bothering with until you have some more power. It wouldn't hurt one bit, and if it's cheap, there is no reason not to though.

Bahahaha Tor*p*do!!!! I've got a built 650 motor coming from VA, complete with mariner head and 44mm carb with FA. What impeller would go well with the 650? I'm looking for all-around performance and have been told to go with a 13/18. And I'm also thinking of installing a scoop or top loader intake grate. Anyone have a dual carb intake w/carbs they want to get rid of?

Yep I know I'm going to need a conversion plate, and Sunday I'm going to pick up a 440 hull with 2 motors and tons of extra parts, enough to build another ski....going to rob the driveshaft and pump from it.

OK big change of plans!!!! Selling the 300 as I'm picking up a 440 project tomorrow with 2 motors and everything needed to put it together. Found a RHAAS conversion kit on eBay for 80 bucks. So if anyone wants a good beginner ski for their kids or whatnot HMU, $700 takes the 300 and it is titled, I have yet to put it in my name but I do have a title for it.
