Stubby cone on a solas mag?

So I'm picking up a 144 mag for my ski now. Anyways, my current pump setup is a 9/15 hooker, bored 84mm nozzle, and a stubby cone. Should I get a stubby cone for the solas too? Or just run the stock cone and then put on a stubby and see if the performance is improved?

Had a solas mag with stock cone and experienced cavitation. I have pretty much stock 701 with standard bolt on's, MSD, same prop & pump, nozzle is stock. Once I put stubby cavitation was gone and performance improved. Besides the stock one is so long

I would not use the cone that comes with the Solas pump. Use any small hub cone or get a short large hub cone. Jazz was selling them for $40 as Polaris cones.

No solas stubby's are different. I didnt notice much change between my stock and stubby, so ive held onto the stock. I guess its cool to add to the mods list. play around with the bore size on your pump, fine tuning that will do 10 fold a pump cone will.

I run a Solas mag with 62t/61x.
9/15 hooker

Terrible cavitation.

Added a stubby and the ski was un-rideable. Took it back off it got better. Swapped to a 10/16 and things got even better.

Now I am at 10/16 with stock come.

(All props double checked on pitch gauge as well)

i run a 10/16 hooker in the solas pump. you can mod the stock cone to the same contour as the inside of your nozzle if you have a lathe. this is what art recommends although i never got around to trying it myself.

I had the stock cone with stock reduction nozzle with a 10/16 hooker and it just wasn't right. I moved to a bored reduction nozzle and stubby cone and it was a night and day difference. SO much better

reducing pressure in your pump got rid of cavitation? something else may have been wrong, possibly pump leak that was fixed when reinstalled?

Ive never had much luck with cone swaps, very mild tuning on pump once prop is really right at best. Would be cool to see the pressure change in a controlled test from stock to shorty.

My pump tuning must have been so spot on because it was un rideable with the stubby and a 9/15.

I changed out to a stock Solas cone on the beach in Daytona just so I could actually hook up the rest of the weekend.

I just put a stubby cone on my solas 144. Using a brand new 10/16 and a pro-tec raider nozzle at whatever stock bore they use. I think the stubby cone didnt help and I'm gonna put that stock solas one back in there. The prop is not hooking up like I want it to. Its spaced as close as I can get it to my stator.
