i'm trying to pull the oem impeller off of my pump, but can't get it to loosen even with strong torque applied to the nut. i'm afraid i'm gonna warp the drive shaft since it's angled up to be held in the vice w/spline holder. i'm gonna go put the hair dryer on it to heat it up...no torch. any ideas?

You need heat, a hair dryer will not do it. Go to Home depot and get a propane torch to heat it up and remember it is left hand threads.

Buy a cheap torch set-up from Home Depot, Lowe's or a hardware store. A hairdryer ain't gonna' do chit...

Make sure you are rotating it the correct way. When you are standing in front of the pump, you need to rotate it clockwise to loosen it.

If the above is not the problem, and it truly is that tight/bonded, then a hair dryer is not going to give you the heat you need to break it loose. Use a MAPP gas torch. You can pick up a MAPP gas cylinder for around $10.00 at Home Depot. Heat inside the nose of the prop until it glows.

stuck impeller

holy schnikees boys...my wifes' atomic hair dryer helped or i was just a p_ssy b4 and wasn't cranking on it hard enough. i put the hair dryer to x10 min and then put a 24" PVC extension on my 12" wrench and off it popped. lucky me.

anyone ever ruined a drive shaft by torqueing the hell out of a impeller?
thanks for the info. next is the wear ring...how does is it come out? anyone got a spare wear ring 4 sale? mine had an appetite for sand.

12" wrench?

that was the problem.

36" handle is more like it.

it takes ALOT of force to break one loose if it was there a while, and had no antiseie on it.

put some antiseize back on the threads!
