not sure if this is the right forum to post, but here it goes neway
while waiting for a bendix for my 650 sj, i have decided to go throught all the crappy wireing on this ski ( twisted wire and tape) and solder and heat shrink all the connections. i have the motor out at the moment and i just got done with the connections off of the electrical box, as well as the connections to the on off switch that i will have to connect to the e-box once it is back in, i have one problem though, the ski has aftermarker on off switch, so the wires dont match colors from the switch to the ebox... i put a continuity tester on the wires from the on off so i do know which one is on and which is off... the wires i have to chose from are white, black ( either on or off) and red, red

i am thinking the two red wires are on and the black and white are off.

also when reconnecting does it matter which wire from the circut goes to the box. ike with the off wires, can i put either on the white or black if that is what off is on the ebox.... its prob a stupid question bc i think the switch just completes the circiut so it shouldnt matter as long as the white and black are on the same circuit and the red and red are on the same

thanks for the patience. i know these are prob stupid questions, but this is my first experience with yamaha so i want to do it right.

Not stupid at all - I just went through this with an old SN. If the black and white wires are shorted, then the ski won't start. The stock switch shorts them when the stop button is pushed, and when the lanyard is disconnected. With the black and white open circuit, shorting the brown and red spins the starter. You said that you have two reds, so I suspect someone replaced the brown wire with a red. In that case shorting your two red wires should spin the starter.

If in doubt on the red wires, open the e-box. One red wire going up to the start stop switch should start from the fused 12V, and the other red (which is more usually brown) should connect to one side of the starter relay. The other side of the starter relay us black (ground).

Hope that helps.

thanks guys, so i was right in thinking that it is ok to connect either wire from the start button to either the red or brown and same with the stop and the black white?
