Superjet keeps clicking

I'm a newbie to this site but need your help on a problem.

Whilst riding the otherday my ski seem to splutter and then cut out, now it will not start I just get a clicking from the electricalbox.

I thought it could be flat battery but after a charge it still clicks, I have recently changed the coil so have checked all connections and they seem fine and ran ok after installation. Tested battery and its reading 12v but when trying to start it gets drained to 2v, then used jump leads but still got the clicking, even when tried missing out battery and connected leads to jump leads it just seem to try and weld earth to engine.

Could I have a dead short ?? Start stop switch prob ?? or could it be starter motor problem but why did it cut out whilst riding...

I have bridged the connection to the starter relay but does not try to start..

Any help would be greatly appreciated

welcome aboard!

A good battery will read 12.8 volts.

if its dropping to 2 volts, the battery is likely bad.

on this webpage, look UP and to the right.
See the SEARCH button?

there are MANY threads about how to trouble shoot your starting circuit.

I can turn the engine over by hand with plugs in so I know its not hydro locked.

I will try the test mouthfulloflake suggested. But im not sure it is battery as I have connected a car battery straight to the power lead and earthed out on the engine so bypassing the battery.

Thanks for your suggestions everything is worth trying

try connecting the power wire from the starter to the battery see if it turns. if not pull out the starter and see if you can turn it by hand. the starters have this bent up washer on the end. i have had mine break several times it then falls in and jams the starter.

Just like to thank everyone for there help, I think I have found the problem....

decided to turn over by hand again ( not sure why ) but didnt sound right. Opened the crank case and the bendix was jammed open and the spring broke. Hoping this was the problem, new bendix to be ordered !!!

Thanks again this is the most helpful forum ive been on.

Better take a look at that starter while you are at it. If the bendix was stuck out, the starter might have been spinning like mad and done some serious wear on that unit. See if the starter will spin with the bendix removed. I have seen several starters get toasted when this happens.

I will be checking the starter, hopefully I will be lucky and not have a toasted starter.
But thanks again guys if I had used a UK forum I would still be scratching my head
