Super Jet Superjet Starting Problem

Currently a stock 701 with a B pipe, and dual 38's. Stock head, giving 150 on both cylinders.
I don't know whats wrong for sure, but i think my problem may be my pop off pressure is too high? Basically, the ski wont start up easily at all. I have to dump fuel into the carb, and even with that half the time it will only back fire and not start up. It takes a long time, but once I get it started, it runs like a champ on the hose. I can even turn it off for a minute or two, press the green button, and she idles. However, if I leave it for 15 minutes, and come back, it wont start up! You guys are probably thinking its my fuel lines, but I already checked those, and no air gets in the line. I am getting spark, and I rebuilt the carbs today. I have 130 mains, and 67.5 pilots on both. Could a pop off that is too high cause this?

I wouldnt think it has anything to do with your pop off. on 38's pop off should be high 20's or just into the 30's. Pop off affects the fuel delivery at idle and a small portion of the low speed jet. How does the boat run after you get it started? Any hesitation after 5-10 seconds at idle then opening throttle wide open? I would verify that your timing is correct first. Are you using a MSD enhancer or stock CDI. Might be worth the time to pull the flywheel and make sure the stator is not loose and base timing is correct. Also make sure your check valve on the gas tank is working, it should allow pressure to be built up in the tank.

The check valve is functioning, i put about 10 psi into the tank today. Once the jetski starts, it runs great. It just wont start. I am running a modified cdi with the rev limiter removed. Last time i checked the timing was advanced just a tad.

For starters, you should be running 135 main jets, and 70 pilots. Your high and low screws should be turned out 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 turn. The original 90gram spring is fine for a stock 701 with B-pipe.

I'd verify your popoff. If the needle is leaking while it sits you've got flooded cases. The hard start after a delay could support this scenario. Snowxr is correct your popoff should be ok with that spring, but verify it to cross it off your list. Timing verification is a must too. Easy things to check...and easy to overlook too.
