Im in iraq and stationed on a TINY cop (combat out post) on the iranian border. because of this i have very little to no control over my diet as when we are lucky enough to have food i have to eat what we get. I also have a lot of down time and we have some basic gym equipment so i figured it would be a good time to get into shape...and also just gives me something to do for an hour a day lol. anyway because of this i obviously need to ingest a bunch of vitamins and supplements to make sure i get what i need and am not just spinning my wheels so to speak. heres the breakdown before and after

worked out for about a month with NO supplements and gained about 5lbs of muscle, and was constantly sore.

been working out for a little over a month with supplements and vitamins and have gained 11lbs in that time. wow. i really thought most of this stuff was BS until i started to use it.

what im using
daily - basic multi-vitamin with higher iron than most (im slightly anemic and my blood doesnt hold iron very well)
pre work out - No Explode
post work out - Anabolic Halo and Cell-tech hardcore
about an hour after working out - Freak Fix protein

non work out days - off brand basic creatine powder to keep the creatine levels up without eating all of my expensive stuff

the biggest and best difference was by far the anabolic halo by muscle-tech. before it i would bust my ass and be sore as hell for about 2 days afterwards. so my muscles were on about a 3-4 rotation. after taking it when i wake up the next morning i dont feel ANY soreness at all. this stuff speeds up your recovery time incredibly!! i could do a full fledged workout everyday on the same muscles if i wanted to. been giving it two though just to make sure. a lot of people make the mistake of overtraining. if you dont allow your muscles time to heal then you are wasting your time.

just wondering what products if any you guys use and the results you have had with them.

This is gonna be a long post...

I will say this first - if it's working for you then keep it up. Supplements work differently for everybody.

I stay away from NO products (have yet to see any real evidence they do anything for you) Creatine is great, but you don't need all the fancy crap to go with it, just plain creatine. I stick with basic whey protein (Optimum Nutrition 100% whey) dextrose (sugar to spike insuline levels) and creatine post workout. Pre-workout I have a scoop of whey w/ milk and packet of oatmeal.

I have stopped keeping up with the latest "trends" in supplement since this has been working for me for 7 years now. I do take Hot Rox Extreme from BioTest in the morning to get me going and sometime before a workout if I'm dragging or feel like kicking my @ss that day in the gym.

If what you are taking now is all you can get then keep it up, but I'd look at other and probably cheaper alternatives like I listed above. Oh another good protein to take during the day is Optimum Nutrition's Pro-Complex. I have this in the morning mixed with milk, banana, oatmeal and OJ. It tastes great and mixes really easy. It's a blended protein so I wouldn't use it post workout, but any other time is good.

Like I said I don't keep up anymore so my "ideas" may be outdated but it works for me. Supplements usually stir up quite a controversy so I'm interested in what other people have to say.

I guess I should add my training style to complete my post: I try and lift 3 days a week. I try and do a "push / pull" type workout 2 of the days and a more cardio intense type on the 3rd day. Push/pull could be pullups/db shoulder press or bench press/seated row, bi/tri, or even deadlift/pullups or squat/stiff leg dead lift. My more intense day is something like 5 x squat right into 5 x push press into 5 x pullups into 5 x pushups... lower weight, not really high rep, but keep moving... Crossfit like in a way but with more weight. I really like Cross Fit football workouts... check them out

The Best Nutritionals!!!

If you are after the best Nutritional products you can buy to work in synergy with your post/pre gym regime then take the time to learn more about the USANA range!!!

Its the best I have ever used and am yet to find another product out there that comes close to the potency of their flagship product, the 'Essentials'. I know this as for the last 5 years I have been racing tack bikes for Australia at the Australian Institute of Sport or AIS.

Best of all it gets delivered to your door, as Usana are active in over 17 countries including the US and Canada!

Let me know if you have any questions regarding them or how to order.

Posts like these are not really acceptable. it's one thing to discuss what you use, etc, but just hawking product is another thing. This belongs in the For Sale forum.

Good information here. I am in agreement. NO stuff is garbage, I would avoid it, as I would anything manufactured by Muscle Tech. They just keep mixing and matching ingredients and inventing new wonder products, each one with a crazier marketing line. The one for Halo is especially funny:

Brace yourself, for the extreme musclebuilding potency of the world’s most hardcore anabolic/non-androgenic musclebuilding supplement – ANABOLIC HALO. The cryogenically enhanced formula forces you into a total body muscle metamorphosis … a transitional growth phase that has you witness your frame explode with new mass. A never-before-seen arsenal of anabolic and muscle-morphing compounds floods your muscular pathway, switching on the currents that control your growth, and telling your muscles to take on massive, granite-thick shape! It synergizes a shockingly powerful anabolic environment that radiates from your muscles, setting the stage for chilling, eerie muscle gains the likes of which no bodybuilder has ever imagined

Puh-leze.

I'll stick with ON Pro Complex or Gold Standard protein and occasionally cycle some creatine. Muscle Tech is snake oil. Period.

I didn't want to bash Muscle-Tech because I wasn't sure if they had changed, but apparently they haven't. I would also avoid reading Muscle and Fitness magazine or anything else published by Weider. I'd find some good websites to read through. I like www.t-nation.com. The are supported by Biotest, so there is a lot of bias and their advertising is a bit like Muscle Tech but the articles are good and the forums are good for what you are looking for. I also used to cruise thru www.bulknutrition.com forums also. I'm sure there are others but I don't think they are inventing too many "new" exercises so I don't keep up as much.

Whey Protein Powder, liquid fish oil, and thats it!!! Supplement with real food. That 40 or 50 bucks on xplode could buy a weeks worth of grocerys.

Supplements<Food

And prep is key. Don't have time? Make time. Spend a couple hours cooking for the week. This is the way to eat correctly if your a person who works 40 hours a week, or really doesnt have too much time to cook everday.

Ive had good luck with T-Bomb(testosterone booster) and creatine. Also take low carb whey protein along with my multi vitamins. When I do a cycle of T-Bomb along with a proper diet my strength and endurance go through the roof.

Anabolic halo sounds just like anabolic steroids. You can work out all day and never be sore. 11 lbs gain sounds like the anabolic halo is the supplement that will do that.

Watch out with creatine, muscles get heavy I have seen many athletes tear hamstrings while on it.
