A while back there was a thread about Surf Safety Ideas and some really stuck in my head.
The thread is here: http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/85813-Help-me-invent-something-.-.-.&highlight=automatic+c02
The idea of a device to keep a boat afloat, BESIDES traditional foam, in case of any number or reason that could sink a ski for good. The key ideas from previous discussions were :
-Automatic Trigger
-Air/C02 based inflation
-Buoy/Bag style flotation that is inflated, yet re-usable
-Keeps Ski Afloat even full of water with no hood or foam
I am an Engineer From Ohio State and I have a design in my head and I want to see how much interest there is for a product like this and how much people would be willing to spend on such a product.
Without giving away too much, the system would have an electronic trigger (manual OR automatic when the engine compartment is full of water for more than a certain length of time) The electrics would be salt water friendly, potted and sealed up. The inflation is run on simple C02 canisters available in lots of places (needed incase of refill) and the bags are glued in place, rolled up and out of the way. As its designed now, they wrap around the front of the hull, above the bond line.
The system is designed to be lightweight, simple and will not impede riding what so ever.
Let me know if you have any interest or comments!
Thanks guys
