Surf safety question

My tow rope for surf I use for all types of riding now. Started with about 11 feet of rope, tied a carabiner to one end then wrapped around my waste and tied the second carabiner such that when the two are hooked the rope is comfortable and won't slid past my hips.

It's total length is 9.6 feet, wraps about 3 or 4 times around me, is comfortable, I don't even realize it's there. It's quick to deploy and isn't so long that it easily get up the intake grate and wrapped around the drive shaft of the ski doing the tow.

I used it at Oceanside when I lost my lanyard coming off a wave. Got me me out of the surf zone quick not having to fumble unpacking or dealing with a long rope.

I carry a second lanyard on board after that because this was the second time for lanyard issue.

I know this is more than you asked for but I wanted to explain the short rope set up.

I have a storage box in my front foot hold on my rn sj for my rope. I have yet to make some way to carry my rope on my footrocket. Around the waste seems like a good idea, I know a few ppl run that setup. My rope is around 7 feet long, guestmate. I ride surf and flat, have towed many people in with it.

My rope is clipped in place on the fire wall where my pole limiter D shackle is on my Rickter. I the put it against the ski held by the tension of the pole limiter rope. Seems to work well for me and is easy to access when i need it.
My rope is pretty long as we have to run down a river for around 1 mile before we hit surf. A longer rope makes an easy tow over long distance....not needed if you launch straight onto the beach.

Not too long or too short lol. Too short and towing is an issue. Too long and it can get tangled more easily and you want both skis on the same side of a wave as well. Most use approx 6-12ft.

I mount my tow rope on the left foot hold of my Foot Rocket...

Cool, thanks. I was thinking of installing my rope in the very same place haha. Your trey looks smaller then mine? Didn't know they changed them, or its a optical allusion. The back is shaped different, and the front foothold is way different. What year is yours?

How do have the tow strap mounted ?
What's that black bent nail looking thing ?

Thanks
$0.99 Velcro strap I found at West Marine bolted to the outside of the foot hold... And nail looking thing is my carabiner...

I do length of a ski..so 6 to 7 feet. Havent had any complaints and many compliments on a smooth tow. Ive never had to tow an actual boat yet, just skis.

around here we use the "Robo-Tow", it's nylon banding with short rods at each end. You just push each end through a hole/tow loop, turn it sideways and you're off.

I keep it on my chest between the lifevest and wetsuit.

This is how i view towing surf or flat. The guy behind me is completly vulnerable and the competent waterman protects him.

If its calm they will no hand surf your wake, which is a great end to the ride..

If its rough get home without going back to pick someone up.
