Freestyle sx-r800 or superjet 700

hi all

I'm thinking about getting back into PWC i had a 550JS back in the 80's now I'm thinking about getting a 800sx-r or a 700 superjet

I'm 47 years old and 6'4 275lb so yes I'm out of shape (I'm working on it ) and tall

here is the question

what do you think is the better for me i wanted the 700 but for my size (fat) and tall i was thinking more CC might be a better choice

also what about mods back them west cost or PJS pipes was the 1st thing you change

thanks

Yeah, get the 800, with your size it'll be a much better fit. The SJ would work as well, just depends on your drive to get into a smaller sized wetsuit.

Pipe - Factory pipe is the hot ticket for performance on either of those skis. Bump the compression up, and send your stock flywheel out to be lightened.

Get the SX-R.

Superjets are underpowered, handle poorly, are ALWAYS waterlogged, and will fall apart unless you reinforce them.

Welcome back to the water.

i guess i got in trouble i post this same post in the superjet and it got closed sorry all i wanted is to get there opinion anyways

now should get an older one and rebuild it or just get a new one and be done i found a new 2011 about 250miles from me

thanks for all your help

Don't worry about getting in trouble, that Matt_E guy is just on a power trip....:smashfreakB:

Nice lightly used skis are good options. If you find something cheap and have the skills to rebuild, do it. Beware, there are plenty of over priced ski out there that also need work.

My opinion: unless you plan on modifying it, buy as close to new as you can afford and ride the piss out of it.

Also, see if you can find some guys in your area to let you try their skis. Most of us wouldn't hesitate to let you give it a shot so you get an idea of what suits you best.

Normaly I would say the sxr for a big guy, but that may not be the case at all. Suva is probably a bit heavier thay you and kicks arse and prefers a shortened SJ hull, its more about how you plan to ride and what you want to do with the ski. (he has had both)

i would love to try someone ski but where im at i'll be the only one with a stand up hoping to meet someone for a riding buddy till then im alone

i have the know how to do fiberglass and motor rebuild and a full machine shop just limited on free time but im willing to do it but it would be nice to go from the dealer to the lake

as for riding i would say im aggressive hard rider when i get back into riding i would like to trying flips and rolls if/when i have the power

Depends on your wallet and other factors. I ordered a Freak with the intent to drop hull weight (just like adding hp), but having to dig into my resorces to fund it. On the flip side I like my RN hulls but not the weight when pulling them onto the cart after a hard day at the beach. I prefer pre 08.

If you have any ideas of trying flips or rolls, go Superjet. The SXR will roll with the right mods, I just can't see anyone getting one of those to flip without serious modifications to the hull and some big dollar power.

That ebay SJ you posted is expensive for what it is IMHO, and still needs some work to make it what you'd want.

I'd find a clean SJ. From 96-2007 they are the same. 2008+ have built in front sponsons, not as aggressive as the Blowsion tubbies, but better than a stock 07-. Whatever you get, plan on dumping $3000 into it.

You didn't mention a budget, but if flatwater freestyle is your plan, giving one of the aftermarket ski builders your credit card number is the easiest way to get what you want, right out of the box.

As Crab mentioned I've had both and ridden many skis. The SXR was definitely easier to ride and more confidence inspiring than the superjets are for tall heavy riders. I could only rotate the sxr about halfay around on a wakeless stab but I with a superjet (even a mildly modded 650) it wasn't hard to get well past the halfway mark.
A shorter pole on a Superjet will make it much easier to board and recover from near-crashes, having dry foam under the tray makes a noticeable difference as well.

The handling difference between the '08+ SJs is pretty substantial, the rear section of the hull feels narrower and sunk into the water more and the sponsons don't feel as pronounced as tubbies. I would like to have a mildy modded '08+ for cruising and carving but for freestyle the older ones can work better IMO.

well look like i may get a SXR i found a 09 stock with about 5 hour of run time im going to look at it saturday

wil see ill let you know how it all turned out

thanks
