rode my sxi pro for the first time today (bought it back in the winter) new to riding stand ups, but it seems to porpoise alot. its got an extended ride plate (looks like a swim step.lol). It starts off smooth, roll on the throttle, and then at about 1/2 throttle, it starts to hop and its hard (basically impossible) to get to top speed. its all stock (cept for the ride plate) will an intake grate help this problem out? if not, what are my options? (not trading it in for a SJ. lol)

Body position. Get more ride time and you'll be able to control it.

yes it's all body positioning. I had the same prob with my sx when I first purchased a standup. I even used that extended ride plate(swim step lookin). I eventually went to a shorter plate and figured out my body postioning and had it down b4 the season was up. You'll get it.. Just need more ride time. Try learning how to keep the pump in the water with your legs and knees versus your hands arms and handlepole.

Its an R&D Extended. guess its like u guys said, just need some more ride time. what about an intake grate? wont that help keep the pump fed?

mine had a rideplate, hull extensions, and a grate and didnt porpoise except full throttle from a stop.

i got rid of the extensions and the plate and even flipped the pump nozzle shim around(so pump was tilted up). That really made it bounce while going along. I flipped the shim back around so it points down(i think thats stock) and still had some trouble but i dont notice it at all anymore.

It is much more tiring to maintain high speeds but its worth it because will all the extensions the back end would kick up and i would land flat when jumping.

like everyone has said> just ride it! you'll get the hang of it. i still have trouble getting up to high speeds on mine. the scoop grate i got helped a lot with rough water riding.

you can take some washers and shim down the back of the rideplate like this
it helps!

I have a 92 750 sx w/ a r&d intake grate, stock ride plate. It dolphins like a mother, but ordered an extended d cut ride plate, hope it helps.

Probably doesnt help that i like to stand in the very back of the tray :smashfreakB:

A decent intake grate will help a bit. I had a Worx but do not recall the model number. I, like Torpedo, shimmed my ride plate also. I had a Worx Dominator. One washer in the front two mounting bolts, 3 washers in the rear two bolts. I also found that keeping the steering just a couple degrees off center on WOT straight runs kept the nose from porpoising and 'searching'.

But, yeah, ride time is key for sure. I'd never go as far as putting on hull extensions unless I was gonna race. They take too much of the fun factor away if you are gonna try freestyle or even just jumping waves/wakes.

I believe ride time is needed. Move forward in the tray as you apply throttle. Jetskiing isn't so easy at first. Plus keep in mind riding top speed on an sxi-pro is very squirrelly, for anyone. Especially in chop. You'll figure it out, don't fret it.

ive been trying to get the hang of my sxi pro. first stand up. mostly doing slower turns and slow speed stuff right now to learn but i noticed i can't go above about 15mph before it starts bouncing. i shimmed my nozzle down, shimmed my worx extended ride plate 4 washers in the back, tried all kinds of body positioning, etc.. nothing helps. i think its mostly because im tall and have long arms. im still using the stock handlepole.

Everyone says it's body positioning. Does anyone care to share how they position their body? i know it helps me slightly when i stand with both feet at the very front of the tray. maybe get to about 20-25 mph before i look like an idiot bouncing up and down. but u dont always ride with your feet at the very front of the tray. frustrating but im determined to tame this beast.

You need to keep your weight pushing foward over the hood. The sxi pro takes awhile to figure out but it rails when ridden right.

ok shimmed the plate 1 washer in the front and 6 out back and put the stock rear sponsons back on. problem solved finally. still get a little bouncing at higher speeds but nothing i cant fix with body positioning.
