sxr or sj?

ok so i have been riding for about a year now and love it. i have a slightly modded 650sx that i have learned on and am ready to move into a new ski and give this one to my girlfriend. i am 5'11 230lbs built, and want to get your opinions on which ski i should get, sj or sxr? i like to ride freestyle and do more wake jumpimg than racing, but i am on lake st clair where it is regularly choppy with very big nasty chop sometime, any input would be great, oh and glad i found this site...lol its my homepage on my pc. :brap:

Welcome to the X.:woot:
If you're more into freestyle, I'd say go for the SJ. But to each their own, so ??
Have you ridden either a sj or sxr yet? The sxr definately hauls some ass, but it's a heavy boat and more suited to that than freestyling. But there are a bunch of guys that do. If you haven't, and get a chance....I'd say ride both a few times and see which you prefer.
But the SJ is your best bet for freestyle.

thanks for the info and no i havent ridden either of the newer platforms. ive ridden an older sn sj but i know that doesnt compare, i was just curious because i know they changed the 08 sj and made it out to be more like the sxr from what i understand. i just assumed my big a** a** would do better on a sxr, but then again i rode my friends extremely narrow 550 and liked it better than my sx...

I agree with Swoopjet. If you can try each one that would be best. I've had some big guys try out my SJ and really struggle whereas they love the SXR. Now I'm talking newbs here. An established rider is different because they already know how they want to ride. You'd know pretty quick which one suits you the best.

I just upgraded to a 96 SJ and I'm lovin it but when the lake gets choppy or I go on extended cruises I sure miss my SXR.

Best of both worlds would be a lightweight hull based on the SXR. I'd be willing to sell off 3 out of 4 machines to get into a lightweight hull, In fact that is exactly my plan.

newbie 650 i live at 19/dequindre so we can get out to ride sometime next year. I started on a 650sx...kind of a turd i'm not surprised you liked the 550 better. I love my sx-r for carving around but it's so dang heavy! I'm gonna buy a sj when i get the money - I just don't wanna give up the sx-r.

I rode an 08 SJ a few weeks back. Was really impressed on how stable the hull was compared to my SXR. Yet this thing still took off out of the water. My suggestion is if you are going to go new....08SJ. If going used, SXR.

My first year riding I bought an 07 sxr and a 97 superjet....The sxr sits on the floor in man land and the superjet goes to the lake every day. In my eyes superjets are where its at!!

yeah st clair is fun and for sure i would love to find some guys that are local and ride the lake. i will also take you up on the offer of going riding and if i can try out your sxr zerfman! i mainly ride by brandenburg park and over in the algonac area unless i am on my boat, then im in muscamoot bay..lol and anyone from lake st clair knows how muscamoot is lol!! party!

Check out the North and the Middle Channels, that's the best. I usually drop in at the Fairhaven DNR launch or the North channel DNR launch. Best of both worlds over there, good flats in the weeds and good waves in the channels for airtime.

Hit the South River road access too. Conger Bay is just north of it. Flats and waves, that's what I like. Brandenburg seems to be all chop.

havent been back in the flats for a few years since i had my hydro plane, but yeah for sure the channels would be fun! its usually pretty calm down there as well. my girlfriends aunt owns an island right over there, its on the sny, its called fantasy island, everyone from out that way knows it and i always see stand ups running down there when im out there. for sure i will have to meet up with some of you guys and ride!

every time i go to brandenburg it is pretty nice, never thought about going over to conger, usually depending on the win the two are about the same. plus i know over there is the worst for boat traffic coming out of the clinton, back in the bay you are sheltered a little i guess plus you can have fun with all the monster boats coming from mac n rays and belle maere

ya i'm in fairhaven right by the raft. Middle channel is def. best riding i've done on lake st. clair.

Steve one time i was at WOT and hit a tire back in the weeds there (couple inches below the surface). I don't really like it back there so much anymore...haha.
