I was looking at some old threads for help on selecting a tach for tuning. It seems some of the cheaper tachs are have better update times now. I have been looking at this one.

1/2 second update times, waterproof.

Has anyone used this or something else, or do people still purchase the PET?

Do the hardcore freestyle guys use tachs to tune? It seems as though a max RPM run on a 900+ CC engine may be a little difficult. Is there another strategy for this?

Im new so i have not done much PWC tuning but i know we use these in the motorcycle Ind. alot.
its waterproof and cheap, also keeps track of time on motor.
will these work or not and why?
also how do you tune using a tach?

That tach says it reads 1 spark as 1 rpm, but on our skis, we have a waste spark system, so one plug actually sparks twice per revolution, it will always be reading twice your actual RPMS....unless you have a 300sx, then you are good.

interesting, and this isnt an issue with the watcon tac im guessing.

i also have been thinking about investing in a tac. last year i tuned by feel but this year i would like to advance a little.

Good responses however no one dared to answer this question.

I assume there is a way to set the Pet or Tiny Tach up correctly. I don't currently own a tach, but plan on getting one before my new engine goes in.
