Hey guys Im doing a build up on a RN SJ. Ive got my hull emptied out and the entire thing in pieces. I remember seeing a thread on here on how to separate the 2 pieces of the ski. I've got big plans for modding the hull and I think it would be easiest to just separate the 2 halves. Was wondering if anyone had any tips or if they knew where i could find a thread on how to do it. I wish i had been taking pictures I've got lots of hours invested. Engine is almost done now and I need to do the hull before It gets warm here. Im going to take pictures as i go for everyone to check out. Ive got some good ideas I think i want to try out.

I think it was Royal Flush that separated one, because I remember he sold the top deck he took off.
Naw. I know i've seen a build up on here where sumone took them apart to do some work in there and put it back together. All i remember about it was a heat gun and pry the **** out of it.
what are you thinking of doing? The time it would take to seperate the halves without damaging either half would probably outdue any work you might have planned. The yamaha glue is pretty damn strong, however a heat gun will weaken it a little. Seperating the halves I imagine would be even more excruciating then removing an OEM hood liner.
I think it's a neat idea, btw...make sure you get a nice build thread going with lots of pictures. :biggthumpup:
I wish i had been taking pictures. Ive already got my motor put back together. I ported the cyl and cases added alot of goodies and painted it. Im going to make my own footholds and shave the gas fill. I want to cut down the sides of the tray and hollow out the foam. I got some nifty ideas i want to try out. Im going to try to reshape the front of the ski as well. Ive got some big plans but i want to get it apart to do it. I think i can get alot stronger glass jobs if i get it apart. That plus i want to paint the engine compartment and it will come out better if I get it apart. Either way I WILLLLL get it apart. Ill get a build thread going. Ive done alot of custom things already.

yep, it was me...
its not easy. i'm still working on that hull....... occasionally :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
So far it isnt that bad. My top and bottom deck are still perfect. I been going around the edges first and opening them up. Ive been taking a bunch of photos. Im on the transom now and the front is undone already. Ive only been at it about 2 and 1/2 hours. I figure another hour and a half. I really dont find it that difficult. All you need is a heat gun rubber mallet and a bunch of flat head screwdrivers. Ill post when im done later tonight.

Got it apart. 2nd half is the hard half. Took me about 5 hours to split it and probably an hour and a half to defoam. I took a ton of pictures the whole way. I am going to make a how-to for all of you out there.

yeah, that was the easy part for me
Because foam sucks. It wasnt hard just took alil time. I also didnt think to take out the exhaust tube until after i was done haha. Plus had a buddy over shooting the breeze.
