Taking on water under tray. Versiplugs?

I refoamed with the pink polystyrene this spring and shortened my hull 2.5". I thought I did a good job of sealing everything up tight, but I installed drain plugs just in case. Anyway, I'm taking on water from somewhere and I can't figure out where. I think I may just install Versiplugs in place of the drain plugs? What do you guys think? Has anyone done this?

Here is my build thread:

TIA for the input.

Same thing happened with my shortened RN build a few years ago. I thought I did seal everything up. First ride, lots of water. I installed versiplugs and called it good.

Same with me on my last build, i would put one in the pump area out of the way, it will take 99% of the water out. it does not have to be at the rear like everyone says. IMO if the three shot glasses of water left in your tray make a big differnce to you pass on the heavy beer and go for a light beer next time :)

Trevor,

Yep, it definitely helped. I know it was leaking there, but now it is still leaking a little somewhere else.

Matt,

So did you put the versiplugs in place of your drain plugs, or did you add the versiplugs in addition to your drain plugs like Performance1 is describing?

I replaced my drain plugs with versiplugs. They screwed right into my drain plug receptacles

Me & Lucas run 3/16 open holes both side, drains the hull every time its on the stand... But FW only ski's

I want to find small 3/16 or 1/4 versa plugs

Yep. I figure the versiplug on one side will take care of business just fine unless there is a monster tray failure leak. I put the other drain hole in just so I can have peace of mind and open it up every once in a while(like twice a year). As much as I throw my ski around any water in the tray would eventually make it's way over to the versiplug side. I have yet to see water drain out of the versiplug for more than five seconds on either ski when I pull it out of the water so I should be good.

I ran my REV hull with two of the small versiplugs (one for each side of the tray area) worked very well. DOIT.

Nice. That's what I'm going to do then. So which ones do I order? I'm assuming the Sea Doo ones because that is what kind of drain plugs I have now, but the picture is not coming up on their website so I'm not sure. I think the hole I drilled was 7/8" for mine.

Also, on the right side I barely have room under my exhaust so I hope they aren't any bigger...

I had asked them to make a reverse versa plug that went inside the hull if you drill a 1" hole, imagine a reg versa plug with the threads on the back side. thread it onto Sea Doo style plastic fitting then install into hull with the two screws. It would be flush and work the same. they shot me down, lol I am thinking about making some up for myself

Yes, make sure you buy the versiplug designated for the threaded fittings you have.
