TBM Flywheel thoughts

it seems that youd benefit the same way as total loss as far as weight goes, but you wont get the multi spark discharge of msd. :dunno:

I never understood TL. I want a charging system.

Dangit man that thing is sick!! I wonder why it is 100 more than the SXR alum charger.

Yeah-I am not messing with TL I would just do this. Why have the hassle in my opinion. I believe a couple people bought this flywheel used from skiclinic post your thoughts!

There is much more to total loss than flywheel weight, the timing curve can be adjusted which is probably more important than flywheel weight, particularly on a high performance engine.

the adjustable curve is very beneficial too the TL system too, I would think?

you can ad massive ignition advance down low, and pull it out in the upper RPMS to have good snap and still not blow things to hell on long high RPM runs.

I'll take the total loss thanks...

I don't see where the hassle comes from. You attach the brain to a board, bolt on your pickup plate and flywheel and run some wires...For the gain it gives, it's well worth it.

I prefer the automatic charging of my ski personally, but if Total Loss systems were CHEAPER, and the brains more reliable, I would run one.

I had an old style, single pickup digital brain, and decided not to use it, didnt want to charge batteries, and was afraid the brain would die on me.

I would LOVE to have a lighter charging flywheel, and more control of the timing curve.
but it just isnt worth $600 to me.

I wouldn't want to loose my charging system and from all the headache threads on TL and brains going out I think the 500 dollar fly wheel would be a better choice for me.

I think this would be a much better alternative for salt water riding..... IMO, unless your trying compete in freestyle or race, TL is way overrated. Charging before every ride is just one more thing to do before hitting the water.

I would like to here some reviews of the TBM vs a OEM lightened, if anyone has done any back to back testing.

If stockers weigh 61X flywheel 3.610 lb and 62T 3.7436 lb

and you can safely take off 0.5 lbs of them for $65 or so.

you have 3.1 or 3.2 lbs for $65 vs 2lbs for over $600?

I know 1.1lbs is alot when its spinning 8000rpms, but man thats pretty expensive performance!
