Tell me about your balls

I see some people cover their hitches with tennis balls. The only reason I can think of doing this is if you grease the hitch ball. But why would anyone do that, it’s just messy and to prevent scratching the ball?

So confused why some people do this. Drives me nuts when anybody leaves a hitch in the receiver because here in Wisconsin it can rust into place permanently

Some people don't plan on removing them, rusting into place doesn't do anything except add a layer of security its not coming off by accident. And the balls are bright green. You seen them, and therefor don't smash your shin into them.

I have been using the stainless ones. I think Bully is the brand? No grease or rust and haven't walked into a hitch in over 20 years.

only time I remove my hitch is to install rear bike rack.
Not busted my shins since................ never.

only time i remove mine is to install a hitch hauler and then i install the hitch into the hauler
