SXR Tell me the truth about SXRs

I rode my first SXR last week. It's an '06 with no hull mods or engine mods. I must say that besides how well you can lay it down in the corners, I was way less than impressed. Being 'built for racing' and seeing how it is an 800, I thought it would be a rocket in comparison to my Yami. Well, my SJ with all the basic freestyle mods destroys this thing down low, mid range, and even top end. WTF? Maybe this one is just a dog? Could someone tell me if a stock SXR should be slower than an SJ with a B-Pipe, head and MSD?

Also trying to ride this thing in a straight line was incredibly squirrely. It literally felt like I was riding on marbles. My SXIPro would do that occasionally, but this thing was nuts. Cornering was awesome though.

Can I get some honest input? Thanks

a SJ with a pipe and enhancer is about equal performance power wise. Straight line, in light chop the SJ may run a bit faster and come out of the hole quicker if not interrupted by chop causing cavitation or anything like that. Throw out 6 or 8 bouys and I guarantee you the SXR will eat the SJ for lunch. Also of the chop builds, the SXR will eat up the SJ in straight line speed of a longer distance, you may be able to hold the SJ for a bit and stay out front but you will hit some chop that will make the SJ get squirrely and the SXR will again eat it up........

The SXR is a pig, it is heavy as hell and like a trashy whore, likes it rough.

HAHAHHAAHA Like a trashy whole, lol!!!!!

SXRs were designed to stay in the water and not right on top of it. Fun factor, they suck unless that have a triple, JMO. Fun factor will always go to the lighter, smaller ski, so the SJ rules. Bouys are a different story all together.

SXR's rip if you know how to ride 1. The faster you ride the better the boat handles.
Put a box stock SJ against a box stock SXR, and the SXR will kill it.
Put a mod SJ and put it against a SXR with a dry pipe, and the SXR kills it

The sxr needs more wave and/or less ski. Having said that, there is nothing particularly 'fun' about an ill handling ski either, ala SJ. Sxr needs to be ridden hard to be ridden right. Not sure what was wrong with that sxr other than you were not used to it.

Later peeps....

I think I'd definitley have to throw a pipe on to even begin to enjoy it. To me it was like a stock 650 SJ. It had no uumpph and felt like a tank. As far as knowing how to ride it, and riding it fast, I had this thing pinned and it was still a yawnfest unless I was laying it down on it's side.

If you just put a pipe on an SXR it will hit as hard as your superjet. If you drop some weight on the SXR, it will smoke the SJ. I'll bet your SJ has a pipe, head, MSD ignition, prop, intake grate and rideplate. That's alot of mods to make it beat a bone stock SXR.

It all depends what your looking for...if you want an inexpensive ski for flatwater freestyle, the SXR is not it....It does make a great surf boat and a great boat for ripping around with some steering mods and a pipe.
Scorn's post basically says it all.

your ski must be a :):):):)box my sxr rips i have a rn and a mod sxr with a tnt chamber vilder igntion and flywheel the sxr is way better then a sxi pro, check your compression on your sxr, if you you have a stock pipe dry it up a bit

haha funny you say that about an sxr, I felt similar when I got on my 750sxi build for the first time...I had never been on a 750 hull but you described the ride of an sxr to be similar to that..riding on marbles in a strait line wfo but it corners like crazy (I also have every R&D mod on my 750) but my stock SJ would kill it on bottom end (even more now with a b pipe)...in the end I like my SJ much more but I think we are both much more used to the SJ hull vs the kawi hulls..

It's not my SXR, thankfully. Your SXR probably rips because of all the mods. I am speaking specifically about a stock SXR. And honestly, my SXIPro which only had a prop, grate, and plate seemd to have more get up and go than this beast.

It could be this particular ski though. It was not maintained well AT ALL by the previous owner and had a serious mid-range hesitation initially. Could you explain how I can dry up the stock pipe a bit? Are you talking about a FCV or maybe a restrictor in the cooling line?

Advice for cheap power gains is always appreciated. :)
