the HYDRO TURF "super bumper"

I thought this would be a funny subject... I like a nice padded nose bumper... It does help spread the impact of nosing the bottom. I look at it like a cheap insurance policy that may or may not pay off. Of course if you stab the bottom hard, this probably won't help, but if you tap it lightly or even slightly hard, this will help.
:cheer:

I still need to turf it tonight... just got to make sure the surface is extra roughed up and you layer the glue up good.

I was just thinking about doing the same thing. I was going to try to find a good dense rubber foam that would absorb more of the energy. I'm interested to see how this works out.

Keep us posted on how well it holds up Nick. What did you use bro??

I would love to try something like that if I know it will do the trick. Better than repairing the nose every time I hit... I didn't want to repaint (lazy) so I started using some HT to cover the fiber glass repair jobs to make it a little more cosmetically apealing. At least above the bond line... below... not so pretty. inside... three layers in the nose seems to be holding up for now.

Canoe bouyancy is perfect for the job - its about 1' thick and comes in big sheets (not cheap though) - high density closed cell foam grey in colour

this is the second application on this ski... the first one lasted 6 months of riding surf every weekend. You have to wrap the turf around under the bond line for it to totally encapsulate the foam. that way there is no exposed foam at all.... It will work and it will last, I'm just wondering how much actuall help it provides... I seriously think it will save you one good shot to the bottom and if that is true, it is worth it weight in gold. IMO

It's a sacrificial part.... :Banane01: :Banane01: :Banane01:

Looks great to me! I need to do something like that as well. What is that stuff you used, and were can I get it?

It's 2 layers of Hydro Turf 25mm underpadding that were grinded into the shape I wanted, by feathering the edges so there is a continuous flow.

done:

doing this turf job was similar to stretching your bottom lip over the top of your head... I was yanking and pulling every direction..
