Super Jet Things to check when buying?

On Friday I’m going to look at a Superjet that is a few years old. It’s a bit of a risky purchase as it’s not running but that’s factored into the price. I’ll definitely give it a close look and do a compression test but is there anything in particular I should look at or check?

Any suggestions or insight would be appreciated.

Grab the engine on 1 side or the other and pull upward, give it a good tug on all sides. If the engine shifts around, you'll need motor mounts or worse if its been riding like that for any time. Just a good easy thing to check

I guess you just have to price it assuming you might have to replace the motor and maybe some other stuff. Motor could be dead, have water, ... you’ll just will not know. I guess if you have the time you could pull the head and see if there is excessive corrosion/rust.
Definitely see if you can spin the motor by hand using the midshaft coupling to assure the motor is not ceased. Should spin smoothly.

I’ll check the pump, motor mounts and spark. A jumper pack is a good idea and if it doesn’t roll over correctly for the compression test, that’s a deal breaker.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Not sure about the Yamaha's but jumper packs are known to fry the computers in the Seadoo's. I just bring a good PWC battery with me when inspecting a used ski.

He says he has charged the battery but it would be easy enough to pull a battery out of my old Yamaha.

I have seen the "charged" battery a bunch of times when looking at a used ski and after the first crank it is dead again. That is why I always bring my own. And good bargaining to say I can knock another $75 off the asking price for a new battery.

Thanks guys! I looked at it yesterday, the battery was strong, good compression and spark, mounts were solid and it is in good shape so I brought it home. Cranks right up with a splash of premix in each carb so I am ordering a rebuild kit today with the hopes that will get it running.

Original parts for sure, I have a request in to Rdrttoy.

I’ll look for the little screens when I dismantle the carbs.

Thanks for the hints and suggestions.
