I was just courious why there is an entire bar for each persons info as appossed to having it on the side like most other forums (see examples below)...Is this by choice? I just find it more difficult to read..I'm sure I'll get used to it the more I use it, I'm just wondering if others feel the same or if it's ever been considered?

Thanks

We have 150x150 avatars, so with all the other info plus a big avatar, you'd have a ton of wasted space vertically for a one-line post. At 1024x768 or 800x600 resolution, there isn't much wasted but you're running a very wide resolution (1680x1050?) so that changes it. With the avatar on the left, there would be a ton of space wasted no matter what your resolution, and for the people using narrow resolutions (8x6 or 10x7) the posts would seem more cramped. Just look at all the wasted space on the second post in your example.

And to see the stats, http://www.x-h2o.com/psistats.php?do=display shows that around 60% of our users are at those 2 lower resolutions.

BTW, I run 1280x1024 at work docked, 1024x768 undocked, and 1280x800 at home.

ah yes...I supposed it has more to do with the avatars than anything...the other site I showed in my example allows 100x100 for everyone, but 250x150 (longer side vertical) for site supporters. And yes there is alot of wasted space vertically, but it helps to seperate posts.

I never through about the resolution having anything to do with it but I guess it does...I'm running 1280x800 which explains why I see so much wasted space horizontally.

I guess for whatever reason I just think it's easier to differentiate posts with the user info/av vertical instead of horizontal. As I said before tho, I'm sure I'll get used to it...if not there's always others... :wiggle: :theyareontome:

I'm trying, believe me...I just can't say much when I don't know much. I've owned a ski before but am waiting for funds to buy another, so I've just been reading up on everything and workin my way in. It helps getting to know everyone too, as I've experinced with other fourms.
