After reading I will definitely use 1184. 1211 seems to be a (rtv) and not really rated for gasoline. Even shows on their data sheet. Only thing is 1184 has a temp rating up to 302f. But if my motor gets that hot something is wrong.Differences Between Yamabond Compounds
I’ve always used Hondabond in the past, but because I’m building a Yamaha engine I decided to grab a tube of Yamabond. I’m sure it’s probably about the same stuff and it’s not expensive. I did notice though that Yamaha has a few different Yamabond 4 mixtures. I grabbed the Motorsport and Marine...www.x-h2o.com
You think it would be ok on exhaust manifold gasket? It’s only rated for 302f1184 is definitely the way to go. I use it on all my engines and it never did me wrong.
Ok I think I’ll just use the 1211 since an engine builder I trust uses it. Also has a higher temp rating. Anyone run this on gaskets too?I’ve used both and had zero issues or complaints with either
Have used both on intake and exhaust manifold gaskets with good results and on o rings at one point which I would suggest against.Ok I think I’ll just use the 1211 since an engine builder I trust uses it. Also has a higher temp rating. Anyone run this on gaskets too?
Yeah I’ve had issues in past before with some gaskets not sealing dry. Also on old skis where the cases probably aren’t flat. I’ll just play it safe and use 1211 on gasketsHave used both on intake and exhaust manifold gaskets with good results and on o rings at one point which I would suggest against.
A good intake or exhaust gasket when installed properly shouldn’t need any sealer but it is useful to help keep custom cut gaskets in place.
I use the Copper Permatex on the exhaust manifold gaskets, not Threebond. You think it would be ok on exhaust manifold gasket? It’s only rated for 302f
1211 takes a long time to dry and goes on a lot thinner than 1104, i was reading this thread and didnt realize they quit making 1104...Why do so many people use 1211? Seems group K and a lot of engine builders use it
Yeah but you have to use the whole tube up !Old 1211 and most case sealants will get a skin on them and smear like peanut butter, they’re about useless at that point
Really good mechanics smother every single mating surface in high temp rtv silicone !
Book says to install cases with sealant. Pretty sure it says dry for the gaskets.Oh Oh, but if you really were a Good Mechanic and knew whatcha doin' you would install them DRY...
