total loss static timing questions

I've got a fairly interesting situation here with my total loss setup. I had to drill and tap the mounting holes for the trigger plate and they can only go in two spots so that's a no brainer. The problem is I can only set the static timing to a max of 15° which means my max static timing advance is only 10°... Do I need to drill and route out the trigger plate or am I missing something?

It is the MSD single channel digital setup (4272 I believe). The 750sx is reversed from normal with it's stator and flywheel. The stator is actually located on the flywheel cover so there are no mounting holes in the case for the TL trigger plate. I'll try to get a pic in a few minutes.

I went ahead and sent a message to XFT LOU to see if he knows what I'm talking about. At least get the ball rolling down that way too.

Well now that you mention it, this might not be the correct trigger plate. I bought it from a guy who had a system for an SJ and a kawi. He might've accidentally sent the wrong trigger plate. I'll ask him.

In my limited TL experience on SJ's, there is no need to drill & tap anything on the plate.
There is enough adjustment room to allow for 45 degrees of timing.

but on a kawi......????
isn't that trigger plate suppose to still go on the flywheel cover? or does it have a normal flywheel and your supposed to install it like a yamaha? i would prefer the plate to be on the flywheel cover.

Yeah there are instructions from MSD to drill and tap on a kawi... I do believe the pickup plates were accidentally mixed up. The seller said one plate was slightly thicker and had a slightly smaller diameter. Since I had to lightly shave away some of my case to make this trigger plate fit probably means I got the wrong one. Oh well...

I wish... The flywheel is tapered the other way and I will have to grind down the current stator mounts on the flywheel cover to make it fit. This is all in the MSD instructions as well but I haven't gotten that far.

EDIT: You may well have the wrong(yamaha) trigger plate if it doesn't fit in the recesses correctly. How did you determine that you can't set the timing where you want?

I mounted the trigger plate in the middle of the adjustment. Put the flywheel on, found TDC, and when I went to adjust the trigger plate it would go between about 20° retard to about 15° advance...roughly. I knew it was wrong so I wasn't measureing very accurately at this point.
