Edit (originally misread): Good length for the surf is 6-8'. You want something short. If the line is long, The guy towing will pass the wave, but his buddy is going to get smashed on!

Well depending on the core of the line, length isn't really a variable. I think 8' is ideal though. Most everyone uses that cheap :):):):) polyester double braid which has a very low breaking strength, I've seen them snap. Off the top of my head, I think MFP line has about 18% stretch @ 20% breaking strength. So if I have a 8ft MFP line and I tow someone, it could stretch up to 8 1/2 - maybe 9 ft if your buddy eats a lot of Big Mac's. MFP line also floats like dinghy line. However MFP is so buoyant, that it can even float 2 stainless steel carabiners!

Its important that everyones tow ropes have a lot of stretch. My limiting ropes and tow loops have 0 stretch. They would not be a good idea for towing because when your towing a stand up aboard your stand up, you will feel every little thing and it can be a stressful ride back to the launch ramp. Not to mention, it can be hard on your ski as well. MFP + Dinghy line will be much easier on you and your ski.

My line is the length of my ski. I've never used it before :naughty: but I have lend it out before in the past and no complaints getting guys out of the surf and being right where you want to be in the other guys wake.

I might make these for the X...

The length of your rope really depends on the conditions of your riding spot. The basic rule is, Short tow-short rope, Long tow- Long rope

Here in the San Diego area, we have two main surf riding spots, Oceanside and Point Loma. Both spots are several miles from where we launch so a long rope is in order. (My tow rope is about 50' long). A long ropes advantage is you can tow at higher speeds to cover longer distances because the guy being towed isn't in the v wake created by the ski doing the towing. Also you can shorten a long rope, but you can't lengthen a short one. The only disadvantage to a long rope is where do you keep it. I run a stock hood and keep mine in the Fire extinguisher tube so that's not an issue.

500ft of rope the reason, when your towing someone through the inlet there far enough back where a fishing boat could take them out then your free.lol:woot:

I have about a 6 footer in my sj, simply because its what fits in the fire ext compartment with the extinguisher, and about a 15 footer on the blaster.

Once around the waist for Lake Michigan rides. However I always keeps a 15fter in the back of the blaster.
