Trailer Hitches

I just got a new car to replace my 96 neon which I regretfully totaled out a few months ago(bless her soul). I know that the big man upstairs is doing handbrake slides around some backroads in heaven and smashing beer bottles on all the signs along the way.

Anyway, I got a 2005 Neon SXT exactly like my 96 only new. I am planning on putting a hitch on it to beat gas prices. It certainly beats driving the big red 8.0 V-10 every time I want to hit some surf.

I want to get the best hitch, but noone carries any around here. I have it narrowed down to Reese, Draw-Tite, and Hidden Hitch. The Mopar one is too expensive, and the Curt one is cheesy.

Any suggestions would help.

Thanks,
Chuck Glaspie

U-Haul makes hitches also might want to check them out. I would go with one that hides behind the bumper so it wouldn't be there when the insert is pulled out.

I personally think Hidden Hitch makes the cleanest looking one(from the pics i've seen). I just don't want some ugly pos on my car.

i think my rocket has a pilot(miss party boy or angie) but I have a friend that is giving me a ride on his 25 foot pontoon. I'll be taking my cans over. you are more than welcome to rip the bastard boat if you like. but at 5.49 a gallon, PB won't let you stay out long lol

anyway, back about hitches!

I just had U-Haul install a hitch on my van and the only thing you can see is the receiver. It was $140 for the hitch AND installation (not including the wiring). Some cars have two plugs already back there between the brake lights. U-Haul also sells a split adapter that goes between those plugs for about $12.

In some cases the 'hidden' ones go through a hole cut in the bumper.
(depends on hitch brand and on car model)
If you don't want that, make sure you find out before you buy..

Probably be smart to find a neon owners forum and ask there.

A buddy of mine had an acme generic hitch on his mustang and the thing was completely gone. The receiver had a 90 degree bend in it so that when it slid into the hitch it came down around the bumper cover.

I put a draw-tite on my old Subaru once. It took me about an hour to install it and it was cheap. I think I got it at hitchfinder.com.

I got a drawtite for my Integra from etrailer.com. Cost only $85 did the install myself, was easy to install 30 min. It is easier than you think for a lot of cars. Did the wiring myself, it is easy. Do not pay someone to do it!! $200 installed?! That is crazy.
