I went to meet Steve and his group today to ride a backie chan so I could see if I wanted one. He had 2 of them for us to ride out there. Both 701. One had a bpipe and the other had what I think was a blaste b pipe. Both had heads and I believe props. Otherwise stock.
One was the original style backie chan. The other had a different bottom deck. They both handled quite different. The new bottom deck definitely felt more stable to me. Especially at higher speeds. It pretty much stayed perfectly flat for me at wot. Seriously. My buddy I brought with me preferred the old style hull though. But pretty much everyone else including myself liked the new design. I don't quite know what Steve did to it. It rides awesome though.
It had the old style top deck still. According to Steve the phantom is also going to have a new top deck. More streamlined. The hood itself is going to be shortened and the upper deck is going to be raised to create a lid style hood. Otherwise the dimensions won't change. The tray is going to get 3 inches longer and get a flat bulkhead. to address mounting the ebox.
I could be wrong abut a few things but that's what I remember.
All of this means he is actually listening to people. And willing to progress. The guy has a lot of skilled people on his side. Its only going to get better i imagine. Pretty crazy to just let anyone rid your skis like he does but he's pretty confident in them. I'm glad I made the choice to go with them and am glad I get to be one of the first to try these new hulls. And for the record I've found it's much easier to get ahold of him just by calling or texting him. The dude is pretty damn busy it seems
