Trim Options

I have ridden my Chan a few times, loving it so far, but now I wanting to get a trim system. There seems to be many options out there from the $450 range up to the $900 range, and I cant seem to tell what the difference is? Especially in the Thrust systems, specifically the EZ-Pull, EZ-FLO etc? Is it just quality differences? Metal nozzles vs plastic, functionality, compatibility? I don't require the top of the line system, but do not want junk. Can anyone explain to me the differences, or give me any recommendations on which to choose? Also, anyone selling a system, I'm looking :)

X Metal seems to be the budget standard. Stainless lasts forever (if you're not hitting the bottom with it) and it might have the most throw of any of the big trim systems. You supply the nozzle, though, which usually has to be clearanced for the arm on the trim ring.
The current Thrust trims use a billet aluminum ring that is supposed to be better formed to prevent water from escaping between the ring and nozzle when you turn. The EZ-Flow uses a pulley on the trim ring to make it easier to pull, but to me that means it has half the throw. I thought they had the same system without the pulley, but I don't see it on their website. They still offer their original one, though, the EZ-Trim, which allows that thrust water to escape out the side when you turn.
While you may crush an X Metal ring if you land tail first in shallow water, the Thrust rings will wear out where the bushings are. The stainless bushings eat right through the aluminum. I've had to repair two of these rings now...
If you want good enough, X Metal is the best bang for the buck. If you want best no matter cost, then I guess the Thrust...

I was literally just having this debate in my head today as I am also in the market.

The most solid thing I could tell myself is that Xmetal must work just perfect because they win a lot of championships, and the price is the best. I am still up in the air though.

Thanks speedy! It does seem that x metal is popular, and I don't have much interest in surf so don't see myself hitting it on much. Do the X metals need much modification to fit a OEM 144mm pump, other than cutting a groove in the turn nozzle?

I had to file my nozzle a little on the bottom edge, but nothing extreme. You do need a trim nozzle, most commonly a 62T from a raider. Should be the same as the late model super jets...

Ok, so in order to make this trim system work, I need a 62T reduction nozzle, is that correct? Do I need a different turn nozzle than what is on my current pump. The pump/reduction/steering nozzle I am using came from a 94 SN?
