Turf help - how to size foothold foam

Hey folks,
I've got my RCW havoc all stripped down and ready to turf. I struggled with the foot holds all year - basically couldn't do spins cause I just popped out of the holds every time. I was kicking in constantly, etc. How do you size the foam to the shoes before applying turf? Is there a rule of thumb? Maybe make the shoes fit snug with no turf? Make them loose with no turf? I know the foam/turf loosens up in the water as well, so how do I make sure I'm going to stick into these d@mn foot holds!?

Also, How far beyond the footholds should I have foam? I'm thinking 1-2" but I had no clue. The previous turf job was so bad I don't wanna base anything off of it.

FWIW, I'll be adding a nice size wedge on either side. I made some heel locks towards the end of the season which didn't help (I think because the wedges were what I needed).

If anything make (glue) the top of the footholds thick first with padding.You can always shave some off for fitting later.
Then whatever thickness you plan to use in the tray,take a small piece of it and lay it down on the bottom along with a some turf.Add another piece of turf to the top and mock it up with your shoe.Or in your case,make the wedge and lay a piece of turf on it.And do a mock up with it.

Both foot holds done. Hard part finished I guess. They don’t match side to side perfectly but I’d bet that’s the case on most skis. Plus, the left side foot hold is 1” farther forward than the right. Gotta love aftermarket stuff....

I stuffed the shows full of turf and I can jam them in with a dead blow and they are pretty tight. I’m hoping that means they will be tight in the water.

I had great luck with 1” plush and a wedge on the bottom of my Krash footholds. Between the top footholds flexing a tad when you kick in and the plush foam compressing down then continually applying pressure upwards it’s pretty damn hard to get out of them. Wrestling shoes are great for skiing.
