fill teh holes with silicone or a filler. Helps keep water from spraying through and slowing working the turf loose. Sand the paint, get it rough, sand the back of the turf. 2 coats of glue.

What do you mean 2 coats of glue? do you just wait to let the first coat start to set up but before it dries you add another coat? Also, can you wrap the hydroturf all the way around the the backside to cover the holes and prevent water spraying through or is it better to cut the turf off on the bottom edge of the rail? wanting to do this soon too, so any advice is helpful

Most have found it better and longer lasting to glue side rail w/ a little over-hand the use a razor on an angle along the bottom part of rail. The bevel cut cleans it up nice. Wrapping the turf all the way around and under won't last.

Yes, 2 coats, let first get tacky, add 2nd coat. No, do not wrap turf..........
Do like motoman said. Trim at bottom of the rail and a 45 degree bevel. Use a sanding black to smooth up. Use superglue at seams. you can also superglue where the edge of the turf meets the edge of the rail for extra support. I also use Black RTV (Silicone) where the turf meets the side of the ski. Use painters tape and tape right up to the turf, leave about 3/32 - 1/8" gap above. Also tape over the turf right up to the edge of the turf. Apply a thin bead of silicone, Take some WD40 or similar spray and spray on your finger, wipe up excess, this leaves a slick caulk line. remove tape immediately, the residue from the WD40 will not let the silicone stick to the tape.

dap weld wood.. don't waste your money on blowsion they give you a pint can for the same price you can get a quart from your local hardware store or wally world... you'll know the turf is ready for another coat because it won't have a glossy shine to it anymore... when the gloss is gone make it shine again.. after it's gone again stick it on.. just remember... once it's on, it's on.. best thing to do is start at the top edge of the turf where it meets the inside of the L and get it lined up all the way along lengthwise, then then work down, this way you get a nice seam there...

so just to be clear, I wait until the second coat also loses the glossy look before I put the turn down? what happens down the road if/when I need to returf? how do I get it off? I imagine that is going to be a royal nightmare

scrape what you can and sand the rest.

silcone on the bottom edge helps keep water from pulling it back slowly.

it sucks but isn't bad.. mostly time consuming.. just use a razor scraper and most of it will come off.. 80 grit paper will take the rest.. or a good adhesive remover if you don't wanna ruin the paint

Does the surface need to be sanded before I turf or will the glue stick to the paint? If I can get away with not ruining the paint I would prefer that just in case I decide to go back to bumpers for some reason

Dap will eat paint and pull up. Sand all turfed areas and clean thoroughly with acetone after sanding. Before applying the contact cement.
