I am back riding again after 10 years and back in the day lightening the drive shaft was a big deal. Is this still considered a viable way to increase a 440's performance? I just bought a blown up 440 and want to do some hull mods and thought I could turn down this shaft. If I remember correctly 3/4 inch was what they use to take them down to, sound correct or was that just a fad back then?

For all out race performance on a pro mod it could make a slight difference but I'm thinking extremely meager gains on a rec boat. I wouldn't invest the time. I would look into conversion ski set ups for nice power over stock

I agree with the above post. Back in the day I used to make them out of 4al6v titanium and they were lighter but really hard to notice.
