UMI/Standard headset.

Is there anyway of modifying the standard adjustable headset to make it a little stronger, or better in anyway.. I notice everyone fitts UMI headsets but they are impossible to get in Aus, and even if you can one on ebay its like 300US +postage.. and as the Aus dollar is @ $0.60 gonna be expencive.

Was considering tig welding my bars fixed, before i snap the bracket? thoughts?

You could just take the adjuster off (if it's still on on there) and put a bolt through it. Thats what alot of people do.

The other thing that ive seen done is to pull the steering neck off of the shaft and grind the underside of the neck so it will sit flush back on the shaft and bolt the neck back to the shaft with two bolts. The downside is that you will lose some height off the top.
