Today, I was riding, and my steering kept getting loose. So after I was done, I pulled it apart. The top Big bearing was fine, but when I got to the bottom thrust bearing, there were only cases, no bearings :cool2:

Is this a common problem, the steering on this thing is almost new:bigeyes:

So who all sells the rebuild kits for this thing?

Thanks,

Yes, I seen that and I am definatley going to order that.

Should I pay the extra $15 for the stinless bearing?

Kit consists of:
- Koyo Bearing
- "Tuff Thrust" thrust bearing
- Two sets of large and small o-rings

Full rebuild kit:
$25.00

Full rebuild kit with stainless bearing:
$40.00

And BTW I like the TBM lock nut, but for $30, Ill stick to locktite.

I replaced the bearings with a washer machined from Starboard. Similar to the oem steering set up. It cost about $1.50, it's just showing signs of wear after three seasons. No more nasty rusty crud on my steering anymore. I love it.

Yes get the stainless bearing. The UMI one's are junk.

When people are buying UMI Steering systems new I always recommend that they buy it from JSS cuz John will sell you the system for the normal price of the system , but swap out the bearing for a ss bearing and the washer for a tuff thrust washer for free.

Even if you buy the system used you figure you're probably going to need new washers and bearings soon so go ahead and add $40 to that used price and if it's over 125 then you're better off buying new.

If you wanna save some money and your washers are still in good shape go to a local bearing store and they should have a stainless steel bearing that size. I believe I did that once for my blaster UMI steering and the ss bearings ran about $10 each.
