little mishap this evening...

hood was already starting to crack a bit, but i expected it to hold up the rest of the season... wrong. bustin' some nice rolls', then the worst happens. hood falls off, ski' sinks. :splatt:

not only did the hood latch blow out, but the epoxy used to glue the outer and inner shell completely seperated from both halfs (now hanging on by a thread). i have about 4 seasons on this hood. i will be grinding / sanding off the paint and throwing down some glass to finish off the season... function over form.

the hood never did fit quite right. the sealing to the hull is all done by the inner shell as you all know. when placed on a glass top table, the hood rocked backed and forth (edge/lip all the way around was not even). anytime the ski would sub merge then come back up, the latch would pop off - almost like the inner shell needed a bit more material on it to make it "taller" if you will. the latch was always loose/sloppy. never tight like a stock hood. this is the 2nd time in a week the latch has popped off causing the hood to fall off and the ski to sink (i know i know, where is my hood straps your thinking...). i have had both a stock and aftermarket latch on here - both do the same.

in any event, here are some pictures for your entertainment. it could have been worse i suppose.

hopefully will get it rigged up in a few days. full ratchet system - no more latch. solve two problems with one solution. :usa:

regards,
Andrew

good luck with the liner

with customer service and a warranty like that you cant go wrong with watercraft factory. i moved my hoodlatch farther up on my wf hood and it is so snug now.

Major major props for that Steve!!!! Damn, after 4 years!!!! You da' man. :Banane35:

ya gotta make sure that you "pre compress" the seal before drilling any holes. this is because if you drill everything with the sit not sitting TIGHT on the seal.... its not going to sit tight on the seal. the easiest way to do this is with a ratcheting strap, over the hood, from rail to rail. too late, i know.... but a quick fix is to glue a little square of HT on the hood part of the latch assy.

I think a properly installed hoodlatch would solve a lot of your problems.

The hood recepticle was mounted where WCF had drilled the holes, and the latch mechanism that mounts to the hull remained untouched and in its stock location.

Doesn't get much more proper then that, does it? I didn't want to re-drill more holes and really hack it up.

I was not expecting to get it fixed at all. I was just simply posting my experience. It is a sweet hood and has taken some awesome abuse for awhile now!

Check your email Steve, that is a generous warranty you offer :Banane35:

that make s me feel better about my WF hood in case anything else goes wrong, anyone have some vent pictures of their WF hood,I have 2 large sea doo type vents in this one and the ski takes on way too much water when it flips over in the surf, they cant be any longer with this type setup? ive seen the smaller tubes a few times just cant remember how they were setup?
